The President of Russia lauded the President of China for the BRI (Belt and Road Initiative) Summit. Vladimir Putin also offered an invitation for global investment in the Northern Sea route. Putin hailed Xi Jinping by calling him “Dear Friend” during his second trip outside the Soviet Union since Russia invaded Ukraine. During the BRI Summit, in his speech, Putin said Russia and China share the desire for equal mutually beneficial cooperation in order to achieve universal long-term economic progress while taking the case of diversity of civilization. He also added that each state is responsible for its own development model. The Russian president added, “Like most countries of the world, Russia and China share the desire for equal, mutually beneficial cooperation in order to achieve universal sustainable and long-term economic progress and social well-being while respecting the diversity of civilization and the right of each State to its own development model,”
Russian President led a delegation from Moscow to outside the former Soviet Union to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative Summit. Putin emphasized on enhancing trade between the West and East. Further, he went on to express his gratitude for China’s invitation to the Belt and Road Initiative before highlighting Moscow’s potential to contribute to Beijing’s recent reinterpretation of the Silk Road.
In response to Vladimir Putin’s gratitude toward China, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, “China and Russia have maintained close and effective strategic coordination, and bilateral trade volume has reached a historical high. Political mutual trust between the two countries is constantly deepening.” Notably, European delegates including former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin exited the room before Putin started addressing. The BRI fitted with Russia which Putin said was developing a host of transport infrastructure to crisscross the world’s biggest country, from the Northern Sea Route (from Murmansk near Russia’s border with Norway eastwards) to the Bering Strait.
