Kindly note that the funeral ceremony that was earlier scheduled to take place on Friday, September 15, 2023, now has been rescheduled by the bereaving family. Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s funeral will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023. A spokesperson for the South African president Ramaphosa, named  Vincent Magwenya said, “The state, official and provincial official funeral policy of government accords special official funerals, category 1, to persons of extraordinary credentials, specifically designated by the president of the Republic of South Africa,”

As the category 1 funeral procession has been announced for Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the authorities will maintain the dignitaries. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi passed away on Saturday at the age of 95. He served as the traditional prime minister to the Zulu nation, the home affairs minister after the advent of democracy, and the founder of IFP.

His son Ntuthuko confirmed during a press conference that the funeral will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi regional stadium. The change in the funeral schedule came as a forced development when Ramaphosa announced a Category 1 funeral for Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. It was all systems go as far as Friday was concerned, but flowing from the announcement of the category 1 funeral, it became logical there had to be some logistical adjustments,” Ntuthuko said.
