DGCA Issues Advisory To Airlines To Prevent GPS Signal Interference

Recently, the DGCA has officially issued an advisory to the airlines to prevent GPS signal interference. In September 2023, some reports were making rounds on social media. The reports were of the global positioning system (GPS) spoofing from a source in the Iraq-Iran area which has impacted the aircraft navigational system in various overflying commercial flights and business jets. DGCA which refers to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued an advisory to the Indian airlines on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference in the airspace. Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) which is an Indian civil aviation regulator, has officially issued an advisory to the Indian airlines on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference in the airspace. 2 months before there were some reports of the global positioning system has spoofed from a source in the Iraq-Iran area which has given some impacts on the aircraft navigational system in the overflying commercial flights and the business jets. According to the source, the notice came at a time when the aviation industry grappled with uncertainties because of the new threats and the reports of GNSS spoofing and jamming. It is going to give guidance and also going to give clarity to every single concerned with the real road map and also act on the plan to make a deal with the threat of GNSS interference in the airspace in a very great manner. DGCA officially formed an internal committee on 4th October 2023 that they are considering the increasing reports of the interference of GNSS over the airspace in the Middle East in the early time.

The official circular gave the comprehensive mitigation which measured and also actioned the plan for the aircraft operators, ANSP, pilots, and air traffic controllers. It included development of the contingency procedures in the way of coordinating with the equipment manufacturers and also it assessed the risk in operations as they conducted the risk safety risk assessment.
