He is the Andrew and Virginia Russ Family Foundation Distinguished Chair and Professor of Safe Water and Sanitation at the University of California Berkeley. He was born on 15th November 1950 in Mumbai, India. He is also the Faculty Senior Scientist and he has also served as the director of the Energy and Environmental Technologies Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. e has attended the University of Mumbai where he holds a physics degree. He was the fourth president of Singapore Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He was born in Mumbai, India. He completed his schooling in Tamil Nadu. Then in 1977, he completed his BTech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai, he graduated from this university with a first class with Distinction. Then he earned a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lowa State University in 1979. Then he earned a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
