Uttarkashi tunnel: Rescue halted, ‘no timeline yet’ to retrieve 41 trapped men

Today is the day number 14 of Uttarkashi tunnel collapse. It’s been a total of 14 days today that 41 workers are trapped inside the collapsed tunnel. A total of 41 workers were trapped inside a tunnel after it collapsed and it happened on 12th November 2023. It’s been 14 days since the rescue mission of evacuating and saving the lives of 41 workers who were trapped in the Uttarkashi Silkyara tunnel continues. A lot of agencies such as NDRF SDRF, BRO, ITBP, and NHIDCL have joined the operation to rescue all the workers. At this time the trapped workers are facing a lot of problems as there is a lot of problem with oxygen so for that the rescue team and the Uttarkashi government have made arrangements to supply the oxygen through a 6-inch pipe. Electricity and meals are also being provided to the workers through another pipe.

On 24th November 2023, Friday, the rescue mission was again because the rescuers faced some technical glitches. The drill machine has stopped again because of a glitch. Experts have recently stated that there are no heavy projects up to 5 meters in the rescue tunnel. The drilling which is made by the American-made auger machine to rescue the trapped laboures has stopped after the rescuers have faced some technical glitch. Recently, the members of the National Disaster Response Force planned to bring workers out one by one on stretchers, and an ambulance has already been positioned at the place to take all the workers to the hospital.

Recently, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials that the previous attempt of the rescue operation is going be conducted at a fast pace and with complete precautions. Officials have reported that the rescuers are currently inserting more pipes in the dug-out channel and also welding them together to serve as the passageway which is around 46 meters of the pipe that has been already put inside. The Geophysict Chenoor has said that they were called due to something which gone stuck in the auger machine.
