The second installment of Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us has been pushed back to 2024. They told IGN they don’t want to rush development into Unreal Engine 5 and end up releasing a half-baked product.
Telltale announced the delay with a short tweet, but CEO Jamie Ottilie provided additional details to IGN. Ottilie talks about how the difficulties of reopening the studio in 2019 were exacerbated by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the following year.
The game was announced to help secure early funding while the studio was still hiring. Despite those initial problems, Ottilie claims that development has been proceeding smoothly. However, the team has recently decided it wants to switch to Unreal 5 to take advantage of the updated engine’s capabilities.
As a result, much of the progress made in Unreal 4 had to be redone. Ottilie explains that due to the drastic shift, The Wolf Among Us 2 will have to either be released in a less-polished state (which the team would prefer to avoid due to the high expectations) or the team will have to work harder than usual to get it out the door this year.
Ottilie is adamant that the new Telltale will not fall into the same crunch and burnout traps as its predecessor.” I’ve done [crunch], and I don’t want to do it again, and it’s not fair to ask it again,” Ottilie tells IGN. You can’t anticipate it in business planning.

The series will be finished when the first episode is released because Telltale works on all episodes simultaneously. If you missed the first full trailer from last year, you can see it here. The Expanse: A Telltale Series, the studio’s other project, is still expected to release this year.
