Swachh Bharat Mission History

Swachh Bharat Mission also known as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is also known as Clean India Mission. It is a campaign started by the government of India. This was first started on 2nd October 2014, the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which means the birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. This mission was launched in Raj Ghat by the Bharatiya Jayanta Party (BJP). This mission was initiated with the aim of improving solid waste management and eliminating open defecation. This mission created the Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages. Another aim of the mission is to aware public of menstrual health management.

Before this mission, the same mission named Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan was announced in 2009 but it badly failed. The key people behind this mission are Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Parameswaran Iyer. This mission aims to make all the cities of India Garbage Free and Water Secure. And now in 2023, it serves as the forerunner to the Swachhata Pakhwada Swachhata Hi Seva. According to the source, The Swachh Bharat Mission -U 2.0 stives a total of 100% source segregation, and scientific waste management of all the fractions of waste which also includes safe disposal in the scientific landfills.

On Twitter (X), The PM of India stated that on 1st October 2023, Sunday at 10:00 am we all should come together and become a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. We all should clean the waste of every single state in India. We are going to make Garbage Free India now. He announced this on 29th September 2023, Friday. He further claimed that this mission is a shared responsibility and every single effort is going to be counted. And then he again requested people to join this mission. He has also made a hashtag #GarbageFreeIndia.
