Star Wars Shows Off Its Epic Open-World Gameplay and Favorite Characters

There has been a lot of activity in the open-world gaming community recently, with the release of the Harry Potter-themed open-world game Hogwarts Legacy (2023) in just two days.

However, the massive release hasn’t been without its share of controversy, with some fans attempting to boycott it due to its tenuous ties to J.K. Rowling. Hogwarts Legacy, on the other hand, has blasted its way to the top of the rankings and seems set to be 2023’s most popular release.

On the other hand, it’s not the only open-world game built on a huge IP that you should be anticipating. Based on the blockbuster films Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (TBA) is expected to be released sometime in the latter half of 2019 or the first few months of 2020.

The user assumes the role of a first-person shooter exploring the fantastically detailed world of Pandora, as shown in the movie. However, another open-world game is currently in the works that will take you to the most famous galaxy in the universe.

The Star Wars open-world game is presently known as The Star Wars Project until a more fitting title is decided upon (TBA). Besides the fact that it’s open-world and takes place in a certain galaxy, far, far away, little is known about it. Yet even that is enough to send our excitement levels through the roof.

The game’s release is probably years away, but we’re still holding out hope that it’ll come sooner. The Ubisoft website only provides a brief overview, which focuses more on the project’s lofty goals than its actual content.

Ubisoft has said that it will be working on a new story-driven open-world Star Wars video game with Disney and Lucasfilm Games.

Massive Entertainment is at the helm of this ambitious project, which brings together some of the industry’s brightest minds to utilise the studio’s pioneering spirit and state-of-the-art technology, such as the Snowdrop engine, to create a truly revolutionary Star Wars experience.

The YouTube account TeaserPlay has released some fresh concept video (meaning it is unofficial and not related to the future game itself) to whet fans’ appetites while they wait for official details about the open-world Star Wars game.

The two-and-a-half-minute movie has received over 1.5 million views since it was posted online on January 29. It features the legendary and beloved Star Wars character Din Djarin/the Mandalorian exploring a breathtaking, photorealistic Star Wars planet and beyond.

Watch the breathtaking footage of Din Djarin strolling through the city of a desert planet while ships dominate the sky for yourself:

Here’s a summary of what the video’s about that can be found below it:

“Imagining a Open World “Star Wars The Mandalorian” Game in Unreal Engine 5 it’s a long time that said an open-world game based on Star Wars is under development, in this video we tried to imagine this possible Game in Unreal Engine 5 with High End Graphics Features Such as Ray Tracing, Lumen, Nanite and More. A game in which you can leave the planet at any moment and move quickly through it. Hope You Enjoy!”

The Mandalorian is not expected to play a major role in the final open-world game. It is unknown at this point when in the Star Wars timeline the game will take place. What we see in this video gives us “fresh hope” either way.

Several concept trailers and gaming experiences based on well-known IPs have been developed with Unreal Engine 5 and uploaded to YouTube. Unreal Engine 5 is a powerful real-time 3D development engine used for photorealistic visuals and immersive experiences.

Still, whether or not the final product of The Star Wars Project will resemble this concept footage is unknown. Nonetheless, it gives us a taste of what we might be able to expect. Perhaps a more grandiose endeavor, such as Hogwarts Legacy, would be more successful.
