Sony Estimates 30% of PS5 Owners Never Owned A PS4

30% of PS5 owners have never had a PS4 or PS3, according to a recent research from Sony. Since the PS5’s release, Sony has enjoyed a good couple of years, which has inspired a record-breaking number of fans to purchase the console.

Now, some individuals may be entirely new to the site. A large chunk of the recent growth in the video game business can be attributed to the pandemic and the resulting global lockdowns.

Since its most recent console, Sony’s latest gaming system, there has been increased interest in the market for these companies. Since there are supply problems with the PS5, the console’s popularity doesn’t appear to wane anytime soon.

30% of PS5 buyers to date haven’t previously had a PS4, according to Sony’s earnings call for the third quarter of the 2022 fiscal year. As a result, close to a third of PS5 owners are probably a mix of former PS2/PS3 users and brand-new PS5 users.

Of course, the PlayStation 5’s selection of first-party games from the publisher has been one of the main draws.

Hit games like Stray, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War Ragnarok, which also happened to be the fastest-selling first-party launch for PlayStation in 2022, attracted a lot of people to Sony’s console.

According to the earnings report, Sony sold more than seven million PS5 consoles throughout the 2022 holiday season, an increase of 82 percent over the previous quarter.

According to corporate estimates, it has sold more than 32 million PS5 machines to date, which means that more than 20% of PS5 sales occurred in the most recent quarter.

Sony anticipates meeting its fiscal year PS5 sales estimate. However, it is unclear if the company will achieve those goals, given that many gamers may decide against making large purchases after the holiday shopping season.

It’s interesting to note that Sony has other products that have aroused attention in the gaming world besides the PS5. The company’s VR headgear, PlayStation VR 2, is expected to debut less than a month after the results call.

It will be interesting to see how 2023 plays out for the hardware section of Sony’s God of War developer as the company gets ready to release the PlayStation VR 2. In any case, Sony’s most recent profits show a bright future for the business.
