Ingleside Collision

The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 10th, prompting the emergency services to swiftly respond to the scene. Reports indicate that the collision involved three vehicles, leaving significant damage and causing a couple in their 70s to become trapped in their vehicle. The primary collision was between a utility vehicle and a VW hatchback, both of which were believed to be driving at the speed limit. The impact occurred on the driver’s side, resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles.

Due to the severity of the crash, the elderly couple found themselves trapped in their VW hatchback. Specialist rescue firefighters from Narrabeen Station arrived promptly and utilized hydraulic cutting tools to successfully extract the couple from the vehicle. The female passenger was liberated around 2:45 pm, followed by the male driver at approximately 3:00 pm. The NSW Ambulance Intensive Care Paramedics, including Inspector Ronnie Mawhinney, took charge of the couple’s care after their rescue. In addition, the CareFlight Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the scene and landed at Terrey Hills Oval to provide further medical assistance.

According to the information, the couple, who showed signs of remaining conscious and alert throughout the ordeal, were carefully assessed for injuries, including spinal precautions. The CareFlight medical team conducted an ultrasound assessment to evaluate any potential internal injuries. Subsequently, the couple was transported by NSW Ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition, just before 3:30 pm.

Fortunately, despite the extensive frontal damage to the utility vehicle, the 44-year-old male driver, who was the sole occupant, did not become trapped. Paramedics evaluated him for minor injuries and as a precaution, he was also taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition. As a result of the collision, Mona Vale Road was closed in both directions, with no feasible local alternative routes available. This led to extensive traffic delays throughout the area. As of 5:00 pm, the road remained closed to allow the NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit to conduct a thorough examination of the scene.
