This year is the sixth edition of Khelo India Youth Games which is a flagship event organized by the Indian govt to promote sports at a grassroots level. As per the reports, more than 5600 athletes will compete from all corners of India to bag a total of 933 medals including 278 gold, 278 silver, and 377 bronze. Speaking of the total number of sports played in Khelo India Youth Games 2024, 933 medals will be disseminated across 26 sports at KIYG 2024, currently being played in Tamil Nadu. The Khelo India Youth Games is played in the format of a team championship wherein the models won by individual athletes or teams contribute to the medals table of their respective State or Union Territory. The UT or the state that would secure the highest number of golds after the event would be declared as the winner of the Khelo India Youth Games. Currently, all 36 territories including states and union territories of India are taking part in Khelo India Youth Games 2024.

As mentioned, this year’s edition of Khelo India Youth Games is being hosted by Tamil Nadu which is also the biggest contingent of athletes taking part in Khelo India Youth Games 2024 with a total of 559 athletes. Maharashtra state is the most successful state in Khelo India Youth Games’s history as it has won three editions. In Bhopal, Maharashtra bagged a total of 161 medals including 56 gold, 55 silver, and 50 bronze. Haryana and Maharashtra are the only two states that have won the title of Khelo India Youth Games so far. But this year Tamil Nadu started the tournament as a favorite. Monday, January 22, 2024, was the third day of KIYG 2024. To the date of January 22, the hosting state Tamil Nadu is leading the medal telly of KIYG 2024 with 6 gold medals, 2 silver, and 5 bronze. As of now, Tamil Nadu has won a total of 13 medals. The most successful state of KIYG, Maharashtra, is in second place at this point with a total of 21 medals including 4 golds, 6 silver, and 11 bronze. Union territory and national capital, Delhi is at four with four gold medals in the bag. By the end of the third day of KIYG 2024, Delhi had grabbed 9 medals including 4 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze. The rankings of the top four will change on the fourth day as Maharashtra, Haryana, and Delhi, are currently with the same number of gold medals which is 4.
