As per the reports, due to the accident on State Highway 2 the lanes of the highway were closed for hours. The incident reportedly took place in the afternoon on Wednesday. Reports have suggested that the police responded to the scene along with the emergency services at around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon after a report about a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 2. Shortly after, the paramedics also arrived at the scene. The initial reports of the crash also indicated some serious injuries there. As the emergency personnel were clearing the wreckage and assisting the victims of the accident, the road was closed and diversions were placed in place on SH2.

Lanes On SH2 have been re-opened

As mentioned, the lanes of the state highway were closed after a single-vehicle accident, the southbound lane remained closed until 9 pm in the night. The commuters suffered inconvenience for many hours. The delays due to an accident in the Karangahake Gorge occurred in the afternoon at about 2:45 p.m. Police reports have stated that State Highway 2 was closed between Dean Cres and Normanby Road. At 5 p.m., the authorities updated that police had confirmed the road would be closed for some time. The 9 p.m. report from the authorities stated that the lanes of SH2 had been re-opened and diversions were not in place. The traffic started flowing smoothly in the night.

Following the crash on SH2, the Kaarangahake School also posted a notice to inform parents to expect delays due to SH2 being closed. However, the official reports have not yet shared the details of the injuries that occurred in this tragedy. It is not clear how many people were involved in the accident and what was the extent of their injuries.
