Magistrate Estelle de Lange of the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday said during the criminal trial of Dr. Nandipha Magudumana that she was the main player in facilitating her boyfriend Bester’s escape last May from the G4S-run Manguang correctional facility prison. The judge denied the bail saying Dr Nandipha Magudumana could assist her boyfriend Bester in his escape if she were granted bail.

Estelle de Lange said, “Mr. Bester will still travel to and from the court, and the applicant Magudumana will have access to people who would facilitate another escape,” The court also said that she had been the roleplayer in her boyfriend’s escape. According to the court, Magudumana had claimed the bodies she was planning to use as decoys in Bester’s fake suicide and prison escape. She also rented the vehicles for Bester’s escape. “Even after the body of Katlego Bereng was burned, you went to claim and went as far as going to court to say the deceased had no relatives, even though his mother was alive,” Magistrate said while denying Magudumana’s bail.
