At the 2022 Game Awards, a cinematic trailer for Diablo 4 was released alongside a live performance by musical artist Halsey. Blizzard has been unusually quiet on the prospect of a new Diablo game since its announcement in 2019, but that hush has now been broken.
A film about holy armies led by Archangel Tyrael fighting demons in the depths of Hell. The trailer reveals almost nothing about the game’s plot, although it does suggest that Tyrael and his men will be venturing into the underworld to confront Lillith, the daughter of Mephisto, the demon Lord of Hatred.
It’s become clear that Lillith is going to play a significant role in the game. During the video, Tyrael can be heard informing Lillith that he has gone to hell to find her. If Halsey’s “Lillith” is any indication, the daughter of Mephisto may take center stage in the new Diablo game.
A holy battle against Lillith and her armies may even take the game away from Diablo’s usual setting and into the many landscapes of Hell. No information has been revealed, but the new cinematic trailer features the usual high-quality visuals and soundtrack from Blizzard.
