Destiny 2 Fans Discuss Why Its Upcoming DLC Needs to Exceed Expectations

Due to the DLC’s position in the game’s overall lifecycle, the circumstances surrounding the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape are remarkably high. According to Bungie’s statements, The Final Shape will close the book on the Light and Dark epic and usher in a new story arc for the Destiny franchise.

Despite the fact that it appears Destiny 2: The Final Shape will not disclose everything on purpose, franchise fans are still apprehensive about the DLC due to the problems that plagued Lightfall almost immediately after its release. With only a few seasons of content remaining before The Final Shape’s release, many players are skeptical that Bungie will be able to deliver, with some even asserting that this ship may have already sailed.

Do you know that Bungie is already quite busy with the continuing maintenance of Destiny 2 and the impending reboot of Marathon, but if a recent report is genuine, the studio’s third new IP may not be as far off as some gamers think. The third intellectual property, known only as Matter following a 2018 trademark application, has received little attention in 2023 as the studio focuses on its two established titles:

Even though Destiny 2 is expected to continue after the release of The Final Shape in 2024, it is probable that the game’s ongoing content will undergo significant structural changes. While this isn’t necessarily a problem in and of itself, the problems with the Lightfall DLC have caused growing unrest in the community, with many fans now concurring that the upcoming expansion pack must “over-deliver” for them to consider it a success.

A Reddit user named fsdogdad explained in a thread that The Final Shape should be “at least” comparable to the Forsaken and The Taken King expansion packs, although this does not appear plausible. Bungie was able to fix the narrative issues in Destiny 2: Lightfall with subsequent seasonal quests and story beats, but the community is still obviously unhappy with the state of the game.

The recent increases to season pass prices didn’t help matters either, and if the popularity of fsdogdad’s Reddit thread is any indication, Bungie has a long way to go if it wishes to rectify the discontent of some players.

Now that Bungie’s take on the PvPvE extraction shooter niche, Marathon, is set to launch at some point in the future, it is evident that Destiny is about to undergo significant changes. If The Final Shape fails to materialize, the game could find itself in a situation comparable to that of the lead-up to the launch of Forsaken in 2018. If that occurs, it could be bad news for Destiny as a whole.

However, there is some good news. Destiny 2 has received numerous enhancements since the release of Lightfall, with plenty more to come. The community may be more receptive to The Final Shape on its release date if the studio can effectively produce two more seasons comparable to Season of the Deep. However, nobody can presently predict whether this will be the case.
