Director of “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty” Will Lead Its Sequel Too

The director of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will also lead the impending Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. As part of the not-E3 2023 season, Bloomberg spoke with Phantom Liberty game director Gabe Amatangelo about the upcoming expansion, disclosing that Amatangelo is leading the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which has not yet begun.

We know very little about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel that CD Projekt announced during an investor presentation in October of last year. CD Projekt would later disclose that development would likely require between 350 and 500 people and that development pre-production probably won’t even begin this year, giving us a clear indicator of how early in development the sequel is.

Amatangelo discloses elsewhere in the Bloomberg interview that he was in charge of patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, which was generally well-received by the player base. Amatangelo reveals that CD Projekt’s leadership allowed him to take as much time as he required with Phantom Liberty, as well as provide him with all the requested resources.

Do you know that even though work on Path of Exile 2 was revealed in 2019, not much has been said about it since then? As a result, some fans were surprised when Grinding Gear Games published the official “Ngamakanui” teaser trailer as part of Summer Game Fest on June 8:

The Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually launch later this year on September 26 as a new-gen exclusive for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. To rescue the president of the New United States of America, the game will venture into a new war-torn region inspired by South American drug barons, ensuring a massive launch for CD Projekt.
