Apple 15 Inch MacBook Air – Is It Worth the Money?

Apple’s release of a 15-inch MacBook Air has been eagerly awaited by devoted admirers. Now that it has arrived, it is evident from the reviews that this laptop falls far short of expectations. This is not Apple introducing a new and delightful experience. Apple has been releasing the same stale laptop since 2020.

One of the complaints about the 15-inch MacBook Air is that it is outdated and should have been released a year earlier. The laptop’s specifications (other than the 15-inch display) are identical to those of the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chipset introduced at WWDC 2022.

If Apple had simultaneously released the 13-inch and 15-inch Airs, there would have been significant synergy. Instead, the industry was required to wait an additional year for a larger laptop. The increased internal capacity enables the addition of two additional speakers, but everything else feels like it was designed in 2022.

As AI continues to advance, Meta is endeavoring to establish itself among industry leaders such as OpenAI:

Even with Apple’s competitive pricing, purchasing a macOS laptop ecosystem requires a significant investment. Matching the specifications of the 13-inch MacBook Air implies that the issues that plagued the smaller laptop have been transferred over. This means the memory read/write rates have been cut in half compared to 2020’s M1-powered laptops.

Putting aside revolutionary, where is the large MacBook Air that represents evolution? This will not be available until next year. The upcoming M3 chipset family from Apple will provide enhanced performance and longer battery life and will be the core of all consumer-oriented MacBook Air laptops.

The present 15-inch M2 MacBook Air seems like a stopgap measure, a ‘new’ laptop introduced to keep interest and momentum strong until the next generation arrives. The laptop from last year will wear this disguise until the arrival of the genuine next-generation MacBooks.
