Most Anticipated Nintendo Games: Even though 2022 has been a banner year for Nintendo Switch video game releases, a select few games have truly stood out as the best of the year.
The sixth year of Nintendo Switch releases was jam-packed with entertainment for all types of players, from special editions of the Switch and Switch OLED models to major new releases for franchises like Kirby, Pokémon, and more.
Even though 2023’s new releases are beginning to steal the show, a few Switch games from this year merit one last look.
The question of whether or not the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack is worthwhile for retro games and online multiplayer games persists despite the countless announcements Nintendo has made about the Switch, game releases, and more.
The Nintendo Switch is one of Nintendo’s most powerful consoles, regardless of any peripherals or add-ons that may be released for it.
In December 2022, the Switch had over 4,000 games. It can be challenging to know where to start, how to keep up, or even which new releases are the best of the year when there are so many to choose from.
Here is a rundown of Screen Rant’s recommended Nintendo Switch titles for the upcoming year of 2022.
One of Triangle Strategy’s many strengths is its intricate, branching storyline, which debuted on March 4 on the Nintendo Switch. The game’s New Game Plus option and the fact that there are multiple difficulty settings contribute to Triangle Strategy’s high replay value.
To further emphasize the distinctions between the story mode, battle mode, and exploration mode, Triangle Strategy uses a blend of 2D and 3D visuals.
While the narrative elements of Triangle Strategy have earned it comparisons to games like Fire Emblem and Octopath Traveler, the ability to shape the story and interact with a wide cast of characters in both conversation and battle are what truly set it apart as a must-play for fans of the Nintendo Switch.
Kirby And The Forgotten Land
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first main-series Kirby game to be rendered entirely in 3D, and it also contains several other innovations.
Some of the best Kirby as Karby memes can be found in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, along with an emphasis on exploration, copy abilities that can be leveled up, and a new mode called Mouthful Mode that allows Kirby to inhale larger objects.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land took the series into an abandoned metropolis full of adventure and pleasure for players of any age without leaving the series’ trademark simplicity and fan-favorite features.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released in 2022, with the former garnering more positive reviews from critics.
The Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, released on January 28 and radically altered the series’ premise, was named the Best Nintendo Switch Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, we see why it’s essential to have prequels; the combination of a bygone era’s setting with free-roaming exploration, completing a Pokédex, and more colorful, expressive Pokémon encounters makes for a lot more exciting trip.
One of the best games of the year for the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Legends: Arceus stands out thanks to its ambitious gameplay that is unlike anything else in the Pokémon universe.

Dragon Quest Treasures
Dragon Quest Treasures, released on December 9, is the newest installment and arguably the most intriguing in the Dragon Quest series. Dragon Quest Treasures focuses on, you guessed it, treasure hunting across the several islands that make up the continent of Draconia.
According to an interview with Dragon Quest Treasures’ producer Taichi Inuzuka, the game was designed to be a lighthearted diversion, with gameplay elements like treasure seeking, side quests, and monster scouting meant to be more fun than taxing.
Dragon Quest Treasures’ crowning glory is that it puts the player in charge of Erik and Mia as they explore and fight across Draconia, allowing them to do exactly what they want.
