Last of Us Episode 2 Release Date: Naughty Dog and Sony Computer Entertainment released the action-adventure game The Last of Us in 2013. The player takes control of Joel, a smuggler who must travel across a devastated America with Ellie, a young woman. A third-person viewpoint is used throughout The Last of Us.
Combating aggressive people and cannibalistic monsters infected with a mutant fungus from the species Cordyceps requires players to use firearms, improvised weapons, and stealth. Up to eight players can compete against one another or work together in the online multiplayer mode.
Naughty Dog’s previous game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, was released in 2009, and development on The Last of Us began shortly after that.
Naughty Dog, previously a single team, recently split in two for the first time in its history, with one group working on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and the other on The Last of Us.
Everything else was built around the central bond between Joel and Ellie. Actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who provided their voices and motion capture work for the roles of Joel and Ellie, respectively, collaborated with director of creative development Neil Druckmann to shape the characters and plot. Gustavo Santaolalla wrote and performed the original score.
The Last of Us was eagerly awaited after its December 2011 reveal. In June 2013, it was made available for PlayStation 3. Praise was heaped upon its story, gameplay, aesthetics, sound design, score, characters, and especially its portrayal of women.
By April 2018, The Last of Us has sold over 17 million copies worldwide. It sold over 1.3 million copies in its first week alone.
Game journals, critics, and award shows all agreed that it was the best of the year, and several presented it with Game of the Year honors. It’s often mentioned in the same breath as other top games.
The Last of Us: Left Behind is one of several DLC packs released by Naughty Dog; it features a new single-player story arc centered on Ellie and her BFF Riley.
The Last of Us Remastered was released on the PlayStation 4 in July of 2014, and the remake, The Last of Us Part I, was released for the PlayStation 5 in September of 2022 and is set to be released for Windows in March of 2023.
A comic book was published in 2013, a live show was held in 2014, a sequel is scheduled for 2020, HBO is planning to adapt the game for television in 2023, Themeborne released a board game based on the game in 2023, and CMON is working on a tabletop game based on the game for 2023.
