Following Cavalcante’s escape, an extensive manhunt has been launched in the area, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Residents within a six-mile radius of the prison have been alerted to the situation and advised to exercise extreme caution. Officials have employed various tools, including dogs, drones, and helicopters, in their efforts to locate him. According to the prosecution, the tragic incident involving Deborah Brando, Cavalcante’s ex-girlfriend, took place on April 18, 2021. Deborah was outside her residence with her two children on that fateful day.

The Chester County district attorney’s office, in a Facebook post, detailed the horrifying events, stating that Cavalcante arrived at the scene, violently seized her by her hair, threw her to the ground, and proceeded to stab her 38 times, targeting nearly every vital organ, which ultimately led to her bleeding to death. According to the district attorney’s office, Cavalcante fled the scene while Brando’s 7- and 4-year-old children urgently sought help from neighbors. Court documents reveal that the 7-year-old girl informed the police that Cavalcante had threatened to kill her before launching the brutal attack on Brando. Prosecutors asserted that he was captured in Virginia a few hours later, attempting to escape to Mexico with plans to eventually travel to Brazil.
