Sandbox-style massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Black Desert Online was created by Korean video game developer Pearl Abyss and released in 2015 for Microsoft Windows. Black Desert Mobile, a mobile version, was released in early 2019 in Asia and in December 2019 everywhere else.
In 2019, developers released Black Desert for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In some regions, players don’t have to pay anything to jump right into the action, but players must pay to advance in others, including the English-language versions. In 2018, Pearl Abyss began development on Crimson Desert, a prequel to the events of Black Desert.
Early PC Development and Release
We’ve been working on Black Desert Online since 2010. Kim Daeil, formerly of Korean studios Hangame and NHN Gaming, founded Pearl Abyss in September 2010 and immediately began work on Black Desert Online. The game’s seamless world and massive castle sieges with a large cast of characters are made possible by Pearl Abyss’ custom Black Desert game engine, which was built to handle the fast rendering required for such ambitious tasks.

On September 8, 2012, after Pearl Abyss and GameOn Japan reached an agreement for the latter to publish the game in Japan, the company started sharing information about the game with the public. An exhibition of the game was held at G-Star in November 2012. Gamescom 2013 also featured Black Desert Online.
In October 2013, Black Desert Online began its closed beta testing phase. In April 2014, we started a second closed beta test that would last for three weeks. In December 2014, the public beta version was made available.
The game came out in 2015 in South Korea, Japan, and Russia; on March 3, 2016, in North America and Europe; in 2017, in South America, Turkey, and the Middle East and North Africa region; and in 2018, in Southeast Asia. In South Korea, Japan, and Russia, players can access Black Desert Online for free, while players in Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, and South America must pay to access the game.
Post-launch PC Development
As of March 30, 2016, the Mediah Expansion was available for purchase in North America and Europe. On May 4, 2016, the second installment of Mediah was made available to the public. The Musa, Maehwa, Kunoichi, and Ninja were added to the game in 2016, and the Dark Knight and Striker followed in 2017, the Lahn debuted in 2018, and the Shai will join the fray in 2019. On June 29, 2016, the North American and European versions of the Valencia I Expansion became available.
In the buy-to-play model, all expansions and class additions have been provided at no additional cost, and there are currently no plans to implement any additional fees for future content. Released on PC on August 22, 2018, Black Desert Remastered is an updated version of the game with improved graphics and sound.
Cypriot publishing company GameNet released and localized Black Desert Online for the Russian market in October 2015. There was no resolution reached between parties regarding the sharing of account information, including character data, prior to the contract’s expiration on October 12, 2018. As a gesture of contrition, Pearl Abyss has promised Russian players that they will self-publish the game as soon as the company’s own localization efforts are finished.
It was announced in April 2018 that, in an effort to increase server stability, Pearl Abyss would be switching service providers for its North American servers. The old Marketplace was revamped in February 2019 to make way for the new Central Market, which offers more convenient options for both buyers and sellers.
April 6, 2022, Drakania and Eternal Winter update introduced significant new features. A brand-new area and category have been added as part of this revision. It was recently announced by Pearl Abyss Japan that the service is available in a total of 150 different countries. Players from 150 countries around the world receive bonus points just for logging in.
Black Desert Online Gameplay
Black Desert Online’s combat is action-based, like that of third-person shooters, requiring manual aiming and free movement. The game features large player-versus-player siege events and castle battles, as well as other activities such as housing, fishing, farming, and trading. In particular, its sophisticated and comprehensive options for personalizing player characters have garnered praise.
However, unlike the tab-targeting system found in most MMORPGs, an active combat system necessitates precise manual aiming, dodging, and using combos. Combos of attacks, dodges, and blocks can trigger abilities. Mounted combat is also available to players. Taming wild animals grants players access to mounts, and selective breeding allows them to create unique mounts. Mounts are living creatures that need food and care, can’t be stored, and can be killed.
The game includes several tools that improve immersion and the sandbox experience. Large-scale weather events like typhoons are part of a dynamic global weather system that will have an impact on gameplay. Players can use local weather effects like temporary fog to their advantage by sneaking up on opposing guild strongholds and wreaking havoc.
In addition, there is a real-time day/night cycle with gradually escalating lighting effects. Monsters will drop more loot, and some NPCs will go home for the night, making them unavailable to the player. Depending on whether you’re playing the game during the day or the night, you’ll have access to different features. Housing for players is instanced and comes in a variety of sizes and locations. Furniture can be purchased from NPCs or crafted, giving players a choice of how to outfit their dwellings.

Black Desert Online News
During a recent Livestream, the future of Black Desert Online was revealed, showcasing a tonne of exciting new content that players can look forward to experiencing. The Magnus, described as “an unseen realm unbound by time and space, coexisting alongside the world of Black Desert,” will be the first piece of new content to go live in Black Desert Online on October 12.

New experiences and challenges await players in this realm that are unavailable in Black Desert Online’s standard world. Abysses are areas in The Magnus where players can complete missions and quests that are specific to that area’s theme. These pits can be accessed from wells in the overworld and lead to different regions within Black Desert Online.
After completing The Magnus, you will receive a new “Rambam Skill” and a “PEN (V) Boss Armour,” both of which are extremely powerful pieces of equipment.

Atoraxxion: Yolunakea, a new cooperative dungeon, will be released in November. This one is “set in the ruins of an ancient forest, and this new dungeon offers epic monster battles, thought-provoking puzzles, and in-depth exploration of lore via a frenetic story-driven questline.
In order to progress, players must conquer Amarillos, a formidable boss that resurrects in a more powerful guise each time it is defeated. The level of difficulty in this dungeon is comparable to that of Sycrakea, the previous co-op dungeon.
Nonetheless, that’s not the point. Take a look at the teaser for the upcoming region, “The Land of the Morning Light,” down below:

Last but not least is Black Desert Online’s The Parallelvia Realm, a “challenging hunting ground” with tougher monsters for experienced players. Thanks to the Parallel World update, players on any server can now access the Parallelvia Realm. Players will be transported into the realm by pressing a special button at each hunting ground. On October 5, the Parallelvia Realm will be released in Korea before expanding to other regions.
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, we also dropped two in-game coupon codes, as you can see down below:
MEMO-RIES-TOGETHER (Available from September 24 to December 6): 2000 Cron Stones, J’s Hammer of Loyalty, Advice of Valks (+150), and more.
HEID-ELBA-LL20-2209 (Valid from September 28 to December 6): Secret Scroll of Pure Equilibrium, which can be used to transfer a character’s level, experience points, and inventory spaces.
You can now play Black Desert Online on your computer, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/s, iOS, or Android device!
